Knowing more about a data lake, AWS User Group Nepal collaborated with Women in Big Data Nepal along with Founder Anjani Phuyal to organize an event on March 13, 2022. The event was on ” Data Lake Modernization on AWS” presented by Ms. Dipali Kulshrestha. She is an AWS Solution Architect, Specialized DevOps, and Data Engineer. She has a track record of generating easy-to-implement and sustainable solutions for complicated business problems.

The event is aimed at data enthusiasts interested in getting more technical expertise in Modern Data Architecture. It was an online event as well as had a live broadcast on WiBD’s Facebook page that started at 1 pm and ended at 3 pm. It was quite an interesting seminar engaged with the audience.

The event covered 

  • Previous ways of building a data lake and its challenges.
  • The architecture of the data lake on AWS and how this architecture helped to solve the problem.
  • Guidelines to follow while building a data lake in the cloud.

It also uncovered how Data Lake is helping businesses to handle numerous data types from a range of sources and store them in a centralized repository, both structured and unstructured.

This event was focused on all the students, graduates, job seekers, and professional females who want to advance their careers in the technical field. The WiBD organization invited people from all around South Asia to attend this session. It was a very beneficial event for all data enthusiasts, data engineers, DevOps Engineers, and anyone wishing to start a career in the field of data.

So what is an AWS data lake? Data Lake on AWS automatically configures the core AWS services necessary to easily tag, search, share, transform, analyze, and govern specific subsets of data across a company or with other external users. 

You must be wondering what Women in Big Data (WiBD) is? WiBD is a non-profit organization established in 2015 in the USA. Later it got introduced in Nepal in 2020. It creates the vision to promote women’s empowerment in the tech industry, particularly in the realm of Big Data. On 4th April 2020, two motivated and dedicated co-directors, Anima Acharya and Sapana Tandukar formed the WiBD Nepal Chapter. 

Finally, a data lake built on AWS allows you to evolve your business around your data assets and use them to rapidly and agilely produce greater business value and a competitive differentiator.
